How to meditate like a Zen Master

   You can join a Yoga class conducted by a well qualified, intelligent ,experienced teacher(not a bogus/upstart/cheat teacher?!)

   sit in a comfortable position (this is very important), with your spinal cord straightened.

   concentrate on inhalation and exhalation, by diverting your attention to the tip of your nose.
   if your are successful in meditation (during one session) you will get a floating sensation, and totally unaware of your body’s weight.

   it would be good if you can carry this on for atlest 5 mins per day.

   Personally, before you waste any money or time in book stores (especially in the New Age section) try online.

   Do a little bit of research by simply typing in meditation and reading a bit about the authors as they come up. That way you are familiar with who you think fits your ‘way of thinking’ and who definitely does not fit your ‘pattern’.

   Personally I prefer the Native American teachers, but that is just a personal preference. What you term ‘Occult’ has very broad variations and actually most of what you’ll find out there is labeled ‘occult’ by someone….even Yoga.

   I would recommend taking it one step at a time otherwise you may end up creating more stress to clear down the road.

   Meditation is the highest form of concentration. It can be practiced anywhere and anytime. To start with meditation, determine a relaxed and trouble free posture with your legs crossed on the floor, by which you can be seated for long periods of time without getting disturbed by your physical feelings.
   Your posture should be with your spine straight and at the same time your whole body including your spine should be relaxed.

   There is nothing occult in it. There is no need to chant anything or think about any particular Image, thing or anything like that. Please place a blanket on the floor and sit on it. Relax your body and take a few deep breaths and relax. Then just watch the thoughts that come to your mind. Do not inhibit any of the thoughts and at the same time do not go behind the thoughts - that is do not develop the thoughts. Our mind is like a monkey. Just as a monkey is very restless - similarly our mind will get many thoughts. Even then practice meditation around 15 minutes, 2 times a day. Then slowly your thoughts will subside. After that you should concentrate on your breathing which should be even. Only when you reach the state of no thought, then you will be meditating in the real sense.

   Meditation requires patience. As you asked for like psychic abilities will all come you you.

   I simply use breath counting. Really works for me, and it’s very simple.

   1. Close you’re eyes, breath in deeply.
   2. Count 1, on out breath. Slowly.
   3. Repeat process until you get to the number 4
   4. Repeat the whole process starting with 1.

   And you can reverse this, count one on the in breath, whatever feels more comfortable for you.

   Now, I am curious. You said, Nothing occult. Did you know occult simply means that which is hidden from view.

   And you want to use meditation to strengthen you’re psychic abilities. Well, isn’t that the same thing?

   Cause’ alot of the things that would do that might happen to be what some would consider occult.

   Of course, our definitions of things, and view points are changing all the time. So, maybe it doesn’t matter so much what we call it, just as long as we know we are comfortable with it.

   All you really need is something soft and relaxing. You can get CDs of “white noise,” breaking surf, or sounds of nature. Of course, you can use drumming sounds if that helps you relax and maintain a constant thought pattern. Nothing hocus-pocus about it, and you’ll have to check out the various books and online information on it yourself. Come to your own conclussions on what works for you and what doesn’t, how deeply you want to get involved, and which parts you want to believe. Pay no heed to those who’d try to tell you somebody else’s way is all wrong or scare you away from something. It’s YOUR choice to make, not theirs. Nobody’s a final authority on this stuff. Meditation, by and of itself is not the least harmful. It’s even used by people of all religious persuasions.

   Harvard has a school of Behavioral Studies that sells good tapes/CDs. Ericka Higgins (dp?) did a nice one for kids (some tracks would be okay for adults too). She has a nice voice and she is an african amerian woman who lives in California. She includes some ocean sounds. Hope you can find her. Also, consider hitting “repeat” and listening to your favorite single. I like Norah Jones “Crazy” but playing it way quiet. …so it doesn’t make you crazy . Hay house is a good healilng website too Louise L. Hay is great for getting rid of stress. Buddhists might sell good CDs even for those of us who are not Buddhist! good luck.
