Diane asked:
and are there any ‘tools’ that you use, such as singing bowls, music, colours etc?

I meditate to a flame or the sound or running water.

I use sound-canceling headphones and the sounds of the ocean. It’s the only way I can get my head to stop going on 500 different directions!
Blessed be

I try to focus purely on my senses.

I use a bastardized form of Yoga.. Stretching and holding body positions while deep breathing and relaxing my body zone by zone until I feel like a blob of jelly both physically and mentally… I like the sounds of nature (birds, rain, water) turned very low in the background so I have to quiet my mind and body to hear it…
At other times I have used intense planning as a focal point… When I was in labor with my son I planned an intricate snow skiing vacation every detail so I could close my eyes and visualize the wood grain in the cabin etc. I went through the entire labor and delivery completely drug free and only had one moment of problem… I was in transition (the time between labor and pushing a large amount of biochemicals are released) The nurse spoke to me and touched my arm breaking my concentration.. I torn into her with a verbal attack that peeled paint..
I apologized later and told her I was trying to labor without pain using concentration… Unfortunately the nursing shift had changed and she hadn’t gotten the (Talk to her between contractions only) info…

I use the step method (traveling up steps, leaving certain “bad” energies on the steps… anger, restlessness, etc)… at the top will be a grove with a stream where I can collect my thoughts, go over them. Sometimes I use music, but that is more to drown out the sounds outside and I’ll use candles to give me something to focus on at the beginning of the meditation (sometimes I use my black mirror for this as well). I’ve only ever done one guided meditation by Christopher Penczak… it was more distracting than anything and didn’t work well for me (though he has some very good ideas on what to do during Meditation).

I know it sounds weird but for me it can be anything. I can just look out at the trees or watch a bird. It’s just anything for me.
