Tips for Deep Meditation, and more?

Learn to meditate
Demitrius S asked:
I do not know greatly about much, as far as matters of a psychic or spiritual nature are concerned, so I was wondering…what is an effective way to open my mind’s eye? I was told picturing a flower’s bulb opening works well, but it never seems to, for me. Would anyone happen to have any tips? Also, any meditation tips would help, because I always have an issue clearing my head of thoughts. I try to clear my head, and it decided I need to start thinking about my favorite song. Thank you, much.
As far as the thinking of the song part goes, it’s an issue because I do not want to think of it, so it distracts me. And it’s not always a song..I could just randomly think of a funny scene from House, or the like. Would listening to music that calms me help, then? Help to focus, that is?

Edgar Cayce wrote some good books on meditation (including the lotus flower meditation that you speak of).
Don’t expect miracles… just relax and do it often… concentrate only on your breathing - not the “chatter” in your head.
When you mess up and start thinking about other things, just gently remind yourself to go back to the “emptiness” of counting your deep breaths.
Eventually, it will become 2nd nature to you and you will start to see the benefits.
It’s just like everything else… practice, practice, practice!
When you are very talented at “emptying your mind of chatter” you will know because your life will have purpose and happiness and you will be healthier.
I suggest (unless you are buddhist) that you listen to some soft “foreign” music… where the words and sounds will not be very familiar to you and keep you thinking about other things… Buddhists generally chant or stay completely silent during meditation but many Westerners find that difficult to start off with. (nature sounds are also good for this, but I recommend that you stay away from recordings with “subliminal messages”… they are not safe.)
